Karaoke Date 3 - Make a Date of It.jpg

In the wise words of Ella Fitzgerald, one of my favorite singers of all time:

“The only thing better than singing is more singing.”

Oh, how right she is. There’s nothing like singing your heart out, either from the enclosed comfort of your car or on stage in front of a wild audience (because when I imagine it, the audience is always going wild—always).

Karaoke is a marvelous concept because it gives anyone the chance to be a rock star. You get to hold a microphone in your hand, stand under the colorful lights, and be the singer you’ve always dreamed you could be—even for just one song. It makes for a great date, pushing you both out of your comfort zones and forcing you to let loose and have a good time.

But there are also pitfalls to going to a bar or nightclub for karaoke. If your local karaoke bar is anything like the one here where we live, it gets extremely crowded. The list to sign up fills before they even get started, and if you’re lucky—let me reiterate, if you’re lucky—you get to sing one song.

If you love singing as much as I do, you know that one song is not enough. So we have laid out the essential karaoke home date night, where you get to sing as much karaoke as your heart desires with the person your heart desires.

Get Set Up

Some noticeable differences between karaoke on the town and at home revolve around the stage set up with colorful lights and microphone. These are not essential to a great karaoke night, but if you want the full effect for your epic date night, check out this bluetooth karaoke microphone that works as a voice amplifier, speaker, and recorder. It connects to your computer and has LED lights built in, so you can have the best of all worlds.

Stream It

One of the easiest ways to do karaoke from home is through YouTube. Plenty of channels offer karaoke hits from a wide range of artists, lyrics included. If there is a particular song you want to sing, you can always look it up. But if you are looking to browse, check out the channels and playlists below.

Sing King is truly the king of YouTube karaoke, with hundreds of songs and artists to choose from and over 7 million subscribers. Choosing your song is easier than expected, though, with unique playlists like Nothin’ But 90’s and At the Movies, so you can pick without endless scrolling. We recommend you check out their Valentine’s Day playlist for a list of love songs perfect to sing with along with your date.

King of Karaoke, while more of a prince than a king according to YouTube popularity, also has a good selection of songs, mostly in the pop genre. Fans of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Beyonce will be particularly pleased.

AcoustiClub offers acoustic versions of favorite songs for those who prefer less of an electronic sound. With over two hundred acoustic instrumental backing tracks to popular songs, you’ll definitely find something you want to sing.

Sing2Guitar is another acoustic alternative with a large selection of songs, some of which with different keys to choose from. This makes singing some of your favorites easier so you don’t strain that beautiful voice of yours.

Challenge Yourselves

Singing itself can be challenge enough, but if you are looking to take your date to the next level, try out one of the following challenges. They are designed to bring out the laughter, plus push you and your date to try new things. We also have a printable version of this list available below.

  • Sing a Duet
